With the end goal of soccer being you must score more goals then your opponent, you must be able to know how to shoot, with pace and accuracy. There many ways to be able to shoot the ball.
With many strategies to shoot the ball the main points of shooting are to be able to get in on frame first and foremost. Shots wide or that don’t test the keeper aren’t worth the time.
Shooting isn’t all about power, you need to be accurate to get the ball away from the keeper and other defenders. Aim your kick ball away from the keeper, towards corners.
Driven Hard Shot
- Like the driven long pass, you must drive through this shot, making sure that you don’t lean back and kick it over
- Make sure eyes are always on the ball, you should know where you want to shoot it.
- While striking it the plant foot needs to again be close enough where you won’t be off balance far enough way from the all where you don’t kick yourself.
- Kicking and then having your leg and bodies momentum carry you off the ground is a good way to get power with the ball.
Curved Finesse Shot
- The curved finesse shot can be a beautiful shot if hit and placed right, it is a inside or outside curled shot at bends in the air. If hit correctly you can bend it with a lot of whip to curl fast.
- This shot doesn’t necessarily need a lot of power behind it. As long as it is curling into the corner and placed very well a goalkeeper wont stop it
- The same goes for your plant foot, but with this shot, you must hit it with the inside of foot around the side of left big toe knuckle
- As you follow through, swing your kicking leg in towards your body to get the spin on it so it will curl more
- With practice you can get more power and whip behind it to be a lethal and technical finisher
Chip Shots
- A chip shot is a shot that is hit directly under the ball and is lofted up and above people, it is also called a lob shot
- This shot can only be done when the opposing goalkeeper is not on their line and there is space behind to chip
- Aiming with your toe downward kick the ball where the ground and ball connect in the middle
- There is no follow through as you want back spin on it to get as high as it can
- Not much power is needed because these are commonly used in tight yard range situations, like chipping the keeper on a 1v1, or using the chip as a pass over the defense
